Get The Look! Karlie Kloss

Somewhere in between shooting dozens of magazine covers, walking hundreds of runways, posing for Victoria’s Secret, and baking gluten-free cookies for Momofuku, Karlie Kloss found time to add MTV red carpet correspondent to her resume. The Kansas native donned a cutout Cushnie Et Ochs dress and sky-high heels at the MTV Movie Awards, but it was the combination of both white and green eyeliner paired with an orange-red lip that made us look twice. What’s the secret to making all those colors work on one face? The answers, below.

Skin

Makeup artist Monika Blunde started by smoothing Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup onto Kloss’ moisturized skin. Even models benefit from contour, so Blunder reached for a highlighter and bronzer next.  “Suck in your cheeks and go back and forth in the hollow of your cheeks with bronzer,” Blunder says. “Then smile and apply blush onto the apples of your cheeks.” Gently blend any harsh edges with a clean, fluffy brush and dust highlighter onto the top of your cheekbones. The right brush makes a big difference.

Eyes

Blunder skipped eye shadow, opting for a thick line of Nars’ Larger Than Life Eyeliner top lid, smudging a little under the model’s eyes as well. She layered a Graphic Liner Pen along the top lash line, flicking the pen up for a slight cat-eye. “Wearing white eyeliner is very fashion-forward and makes your eyes look bigger, but it can be intimidating,” says Blunder. “It’s the same as clothing; you just have to go for it and believe in what you’re wearing.” Blunder applied Nars Long-Wear Eyeliner bottom waterline, curled her lashes, and layered on a few coats of VS Makeup’s Volume Plump Mascara . “Karlie doesn’t like her brows too severe,” Blunder says. “So I just lightly penciled them in Ash Blonde.”

Lips

Blunder applied  Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square straight from the stick. “It’s the perfect orangey-red color,” she says.

Hair

Thick, voluminous hair was the mission for hairstylist Gregory Russell, so he prepped Kloss’ fine locks with Serge Normant’s Meta Lush Volumizer before blow-drying  For height, he lifted her roots while drying, gently smoothing her bangs to one side. “Clip warm hair into pin curls on your crown to have lasting fullness,” he says. “But make sure to let them cool completely before releasing.” Once the model’s hair set, Russell released the pins and brushed her, rolled her locks under with a 1 1/2-inch curling iron, and set with hairspray.
