Investing In Your Wardrobe

Clothing is something that can you get in trouble financially if you spend too much on it and can cost you certain opportunities if you don’t spend enough on it.

Let's be honest: we live in a very materialistic world where people will make presumptions based on the way you dressed. However, this isn’t always a bad thing, because clothing can be used as a tool to help you get ahead. If you dress well, you can meet complete strangers who know nothing about you and yet will make positive assumptions about you based on the clothing you wear.
There is also quite a bit of truth behind the expression, “the way you dress says a lot about your character and stature.” The way we dress is essentially a part of our identity. Clothes can proclaim everything from your profession, to your passions, or even both at the same time.
We know that dressing well can be costly, but it can be even more costly if you don’t. You don’t have to break the bank on designer apparel; you just have to spend a little extra on nice, well-fitted clothing. If getting ahead in life is important to you, you should definitely invest in your wardrobe. Here is why:

Create Positive First Impressions
First impressions are important. As soon as someone sees you, an impression is formed. Whether it’s professional or romantic, you usually want first impressions to be positive. Clothing plays a huge part in this, as the majority of your body is covered in it. Many times, clothing is one of the few details that people are able to remember when first meeting someone. The better you’re dressed, the more respect and attention you will be given during first encounters.
Increase Your Productivity
We’ve all had the experience of feeling more motivated and focused when we’re dressed up for work. This is because dressing well causes us to feel good, which has a direct effect on our productivity. By that same reasoning, dressing too “casually” can hurt our productivity. When I wear a nice suit, I feel like I can take on the world. When I wear pajamas, I feel like laying around all day. Remember to dress for what you want to accomplish; it makes no sense to go into battle without a suit of armor.
Increase Your Confidence
When you dress well, you feel good about what you are wearing. When you feel good about what you’re wearing, you
feel more confident. Dressing nice reinforces the notion that you deserve better treatment in your own mind. Not only do you come off as more poised, but you feel more self-assured when you are dressed nice. When you don’t feel like you look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. It is as easy as “dress good, feel good.”
Increase Your Perceived Status
In a society that focuses on aesthetics, better-dressed men routinely experience better treatment and service than their unkempt counterparts. Well dressed men are usually perceived as intelligent or affluent. Of course, this is not always true, but clothing is the easiest attribute to use in formulating assumptions about people you don’t know. Most of the time people will take you as serious as you dress. Dressing nice is an easy “hack” you can use to increase your perceived status.
Stand Out
Being well dressed is an easy way to stand out in a positive manner. Whether you’re looking for a job or already have one, dressing sharp allows you to stand out from the rest and get ahead. Your employer or even future employer will definitely take notice. You should always strive to be one of the best dressed men in the room. Be sure to learn the difference between dressing sharp and dressing flashy. Dress confidently and maturely.

Makes You More Attractive
Going back to first impressions, when you first meet a woman, she will be making many assumptions based on the way you dress. Make sure she is assuming good things. Besides just
first impressions, dressing nice is one of the easiest way to become more attractive. Women love well dressed men and the matter of the fact is that many men don’t put too much effort into their attire, giving you a competitive advantage if you dress well.

Get A Return On Investment (ROI)
A good suit, which can cost you a couple of hundred dollars, is truly an investment. Nice clothing doesn’t only make us look and feel good, but it has actual utility. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, consultant or job seeker, spending money on clothing can make you more money. When you’re dressed very sharply, people will assume you're successful and that your services are costly. Neil Patel actually wrote
a great post about how him investing $2,000 into his wardrobe allowed him to raise his consulting rate from $100 an hour to $250 an hour.
