Business
casual means many things to many people, but the consensus tends to
be “Not jeans, but not a suit”. Although I do love wearing a nice
fitted suit, business casual is my favorite type of clothing style
for everyday wear.
Business casual still allows you to come off as
confident, intelligent, and respectable, without having to wear a
three-piece suit.
Keep
in mind that just because the word “casual” is in business
casual, doesn’t mean you can do it half-assed. There is a distinct
difference between not wearing a t-shirt or jeans and successfully
pulling off business casual. Stand out in the office; don’t try to
just reach the minimal dress-code requirements. Dress well and it
will reflect favorably on your work.
Make
sure to dress according to the season. Fall is a great season to
experiment with your office
attire
as you can play around with layering your clothes for a more stylish
look. Don’t be that guy wearing hoodies all fall. Here are some
tips on how you can rock the business casual look hard this fall.
Tips
- Wear fitted clothes. One of the easiest ways to ruin an outfit is to wear clothes that are too large for you, or in some cases, too small. You may work out but no one would ever be able to tell under a shirt that is way too large for you.
- Wear warm colors such as rust, brown, green, and burgundy during the fall. Fall is also just about the only time during the year you can get away with wearing brown.
- Stock up on some nice sweaters. Avoid the ones that you would wear to one of the “ugly-sweater” Christmas parties. I personally prefer v-necks, cardigans and collared/shawl sweaters.
- Mix in some light layering and color blending. During the fall you can easily layer a sweater or light jacket on top of a shirt with a tie. Keep the heavy layering for the winter.
- Shoes are some of the best investments you will make regarding your wardrobe. Loafers, oxfords, derbies, and brogues will all look suitably smart at the office and will sharpen your outfit. Also try rocking a pair of chukka or chelsea boots this fall.
